I chose this course to raise my level of competence in the field of Business & entrepreneurship. At the start of this course, I did not see myself as an entrepreneur because decision making and taking risks is really troublesome for me. This course showed me tools, which I could use to support my decision making. During the guest lectures, I learned it is really important to have a clear vision. This vision can help you keep track of your process and motivate you to reach your goals.
The tools in this course will help me during my FMP to identify opportunities, identify stakeholders and support me while including these stakeholders. At the start of this course, an empathy map was used to empathize with the user. An empathy map can help prepare me for interviews with stakeholders to gain more insights. Because I use a user-centered design approach for my FMP, I used the empathy map to prepare me for the unstructured interviews I conducted. Through conducting the empathy map I could decide the subjects in the interview.
After this course, I understand why I value the design approach of Anupam Pathak. He does not only include the user in the design process but also uses this in his marketing strategy. Including the user in the introduction video of ‘Liftware’, makes the concept really strong. In this course, I learned that not only the inclusion of the user can make the project really strong, but also the use of the tools. By using these tools it is easy to present why decisions were made.
Although I have not changed a lot looking at the self-reflection tool, I think my view of taking risks has changed. Also, the tools will help me to identify opportunities better. In the self-reflection tool is asked if you go for the ‘big win’ even when things could go seriously wrong. I think the tools and methods should help you identify the risk. If the risk is bigger than the opportunities, the risk is too big. With the tools gained in this elective, I would be more confident to take risks because the opportunities and risks can be identified really well. To be able to be a champion for my own ideas, I could use these tools to support my choices. In our project, we did not use the ten types of innovation. I would like to use the ten types of innovation in my FMP, to evaluate my design and give recommendations to my client ‘Qwiek’. I still do not see myself as an entrepreneur, but I could use the tools and methods gained in this course to include the user in my design process. And maybe it is time for me to take some more risks. For my FMP this means, do not back away from making choices.
